AMERICAN LEGION HIGH SCHOOL ORATORICAL CONTEST
Hundreds from over 125 high schools throughout Hapsierland, will begin competition in the elim-1 ination of contestants in the local high schools for the State Oratorical. Contest this month. The winner from each school must make an application for an entry , in the State Contest to the Direc- ( tor of Americanism, The Amer-, ican Legion, Department of Indiana,’ prior to February 3. Judge Frank B. Russell of Tip- 1 ton, State Oratorical Chairman,! announced today that he was ex- j pecting a banner year in the an- : nual contest which is sponsored jointly by the Indiana American Legion and the Indiana State Bar j Association. Judge Russell stated also that last year the contest attracted entries from more than 100 high schools. The high school winner will compete first in a County Contest. The county winner will compete in the District Contest, with . the district winner advancing to | one of four zone contests. The four finalists will meet in the state finals on March 25th, with the time and place being announced later. The American Legion Post sponsoring the State Champion Oratorical winner will receive the Harold E. Morris, Glen Park Post No. 214 Award The winner of the Indiana Contest will compete in Regional and Sectional competition Nationally, under the director of The American Legion’s National Americanism Division. Four scholarships, totaling $8,000.00, will be awarded to provide a college education to the four top contestants in the National Contest. A $4,000.00 scholarship is the top price posted by the National Legion in the Oratorical Contest.
