To the People of our Community: DeMotte Post No. 440 of the American Legion, and its Ladies Auxiliary appreciate the generous support you have given to our cause which is very worthy. For the benefit of those who are familiar with the objects of the American Legion, the following is quoted from the Preamble. “For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes: to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a one hundred per cent Americanism; to preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, State and Nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.” We welcome all eligible veterans into our comradeship. We will continue to cooperate in all movements for the improvement and advancement of our community. Jack Stellingwerf, Commander No. 440 I American Legion.
