Dewey, Halleck Top Ticket In Contested Races; Webb Piles Up Biggest Tally Voting tabulations for Jasper comity will be found on page 4. This rock-ribbed Republican stronghold held off the Democratic steamroller that enveloped much of the nation yesterday to keep alive its prestige as one of the nation’s foremost Republican centers by engineering a sweep of all county offices and rolling up majorities for all state and national candidates. It stood off the Democratic challenge just as solidly as it did in three of the four Roosevelt campaigns and hung up majorities for its ticket ranging from 4320 to 1237 votes. In contested elections Governor Thomas A. Dewey led the field with a 2104 margin, closely followed by Congressman Charles A. Halleck who piled up a margin of 2077 votes. Next in line was Delos Waymire who led George Calloway for th£ County Recorder post by 1976 votes. Cecil Hooker and Brown Lamborn, Republican commissioner candidates, won with plenty of votes to spare. ___ In uncontested races, Sheriff Webb topped the ballot with a natty 4376, closely pursued by Attorney Robert Wright, candidate for prosecutor. The balance of the uncontested ticket was not far behind. Although the county went overwhelmingly Republican, here and there a precinct occasionally felt constrained to give a democrat candidate a slight edge, but those spots were few and far between and not of devastating force.
