Stassen To Make Indiana Talk Friday
Overflow Crowd Expected To Greet Fohner Governor; Halleck to Speak Lafayette, Ind., Oct. 28. Plans have been completed to accomodate an overflow crowd expected to greet Harold Stassen, former Minnesota Governor, when he addresses a Second District GOP rally in the Jefferson High School gymnasium here tomorrow Hight. The former Governor, now President of the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia, will bo introduced by House Majority Leader Charles A. Halleck of Rensselaer. State and local Republican candidates will be introduced. Mr. Stassen, who was a candidate for President at the Republican national convention, will make his only Indiana campaign appearance at the Lafayette victory meeting. Mr. Stassen has made several addresses throughout the country on behalf of the Dewey-Warren national ticket. Jay Watson, Tippecanoe County Republican Chairman, who is in charge of arrangements for the rally, said arrangements have been made to permit all persons who attend to hear Mr. Stassen. A loud speaker system has been installed to carry the address to those who are unable to get into the gymnasium. The Jefferson High School band will present a musical program preceding the speaking. Mr. Stassen will arrive in Lafayette at 3:45 o’clock tomorrow afternoon. He will be welcomed at the railroad station by a large delegation of local GOP diglnitaries. Mr. Stassen will tour the Purdue University campus and visit with Purdue’s President Frederick Hovde before his speaking engagement at 7:45 p.m. Dr. Hovde and Mr. Stassen were classmates at the University of Minnesota and are close personal friends.
