Modern Homemaking The Modern Homemakers of Hanging Grove met September 23 at the home of Mrs. Walter Erb with 33 members present. The meeting opened with the singing 0 f “Onward Christian Soilders” followed by the pledge to the Flag and the Home Economics Creed. Rool call was answered by “A x Memory of My First School Days” Mrs M. D. Jackson, Goldie Swing and Helen Wilkens were named as the nominating committee for Achievement Day exhibit are Betty Simly, Lois Saltwell and Edna Osborne. The prize for the penny drill was won by Zelpha Brown. . The safety lesson on electricity 1 was given by Lois Saltwell. Jean Jordan gave the lesson on “Special Ocasions for the family.” Next year’s program was planned. The next meeting will be October 28. North Marion ' The North Marion Happy Homes Club met on October 7, with Mrs. Floyd Stath and Mrs. Glen Stath co-hostesses. There were 22 members and 2 visitors present. The group sang “On the Banks of the Wabash” tocopen the meeting. Mrs. Evelyn Daugherty read the history Ollie Barber led allegiance to the flag followed by a silent prayer. Roll call and other business was held . The election of 1949 officers was as follow's: President, Mrs. Crystal Williams; Secretary Dorthea Stoler; Treasurer, Mabel * Johnson, Publicity chairman, Edna Amsler and penny keeper, Ollie Barber. Betty Stath gave ?, safety lesson on electrical appliances. Myrtle Norman and her sponser gave a movie advertising Charis Garments. Lona Zimmer took record of the clubs achivement for the year. Edna Amsler was winner of the hostess prize’, an attractive potted plant. !£he club voted to se/ve the election ‘meals. A delightful social hour followed. Carpenter Township The Carpenter Township Home Economics club met on October 6 at the Library with 45 members present. The election of officers are as follows: President, Mathilda Lehe; Vice-president, Dorthy Alter; Secretary, Leona Ford; Treasurer, Mary Lambert; Publicity, Elsie Bickel. The next meeting will be November 3. OLDEST DEMOCRATIC
