Majority Leader Says GOP Kept Pledge to People
Local Congressman Speaks Before Large Audience At Lake Village Speaking to an audience of gratifying proportions, The Hon. Chas. A. Halleek of Rensselaer spoke at Lake Village at a Republican rally held in the school auditorium Monday. More than 500 attended the meeting, a fine tribute to the outstanding record of the local congressman. The meeting was in charge of Frank Manning, chairman of the Newton county Republican central committee. Party leaders of Newton and Jasper county were in attendance, including Cope J. Hanley, Jasper county Republican central committee chairman. Fern Bauman, county vice-chairman, Wm. A. Woodworth, candidate for joint representative from Jasper and Newton counties, and other candidates from both counties. The speaker was introduced by Ira Dixon of Kentland, second district chairman. Mr. Dixon reviewed the rapid rise in prominence of Mr. Halleek since his election as Representative 14 years ago, to his present highly important position as Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, a position extended to him for his outstanding ability and hard work and the recognition by his fellow-members in Congress of his ability to get the job done. Mr. Halleek, in Rensselaer for a few hours today, outlined his speaking engagments for the next few days as follows: Winamac, tonight; .Terre Haute, Wednesday night; Ft. Wayne. Tnursday night; Chicago, Friday night, after which he will fly to Portland, Oiegon, to speak on Saturday night.
