LEGION BACKS SAFETY PROGRAM

Indianapolis, Sept. 3. - ndiana’s 475 American Legion posts were urged today by the Legion State Safety Committee to support the September Back-To-School safety program being sponsored in the communities of the state by local units of the Indiana Congress of Parents and Teachers. The program, being sponsored statewide by the Indiana Traffic Safety Commission, is part of a nationwide campaign of the National Safety Council, using the slogan “Watch Out For Us—Give Us A Brake!” Co-operation of Legion Posts with the PTA and other participating groups is being stressed in accord with the policy of the Legion’s National Americanism Commission to encourage participation in co-ordinated programs whenever possible, according to Joe Stutesman, chairman of the Safety Committee of the Legion’s Indiana department. The PTA has accepted the assignment of putting on the September program in Indiana communities, with the assistance of schools and local and state police agencies and other community civic groups. The American Legion, in addition to suggesting post participation, is backing the program nationally with a nationwide advertising campaign.
