W.S.C.S. MEETING

The Woman Society of the Methodist Church met Thursday, August 12 at nipe o’clock for a breakfast meeting. The meeting was held out under the tree in Chappells front yard. Tables were set up in the yard and were decorated with flowers from Chappels garden. Devotions were led by Mrs. Moor assisted by Mrs. Mabel Hunter and Mrs.* Florence DeYoung. It was decided at the meeting |o help any of the children financially that want to go to Battk Ground next j, T ear. To raise the money the traveling basket will be sent around again and the money used for this purpose. The very interesting lesson of the day was given by Mis. Edna DeKock. It was on the Island of Porto Rico. We found out that Porto Rico is called the paradise of the Atlantic. While it is a beautiful country, it is a land of extreme contracts. Some beautiful homes, but most of the people living in unhealthy huts. It has been stated that for a family to livg up to American standards they would n€ed 25 acres of land. But unstead of that the average family has only acre of land. Because their is no pasture land on the island there are no cows and barely no milk available because of this there is a great deal of T. B. ar.d malnutrition on the island. While it is such a beautiful vacation island it is indeed a land of poverty and an island that need great help from the churches * America. Mrs. Trcna Stangle and Mrs. Thumu Holladay were responsible so: .i. - food that was served at the . /eakfast.
