Carpenter Township Displaces Marion In County Fair Sweepstakes Marion township lost the agricultural trophy presented by Sears-Roebuck, to exhibitors of Carpenter township by only one ribbon, or 152 to 156 points, in the county fair “ag” sweepstakes competition completed yesterday. The final tabulation is based upon awarding Iff points for a first place ribbon, six points: for second and four points for third. The competition was closer this year with exhibitors from Union, Jordan, Marion and Carpenter vieing for the ribbons. The latter had enough second and third awards to lead the final evaluation. The individual township winners were Elmer Jacks, Marion, and Bonnie Norman, the Jasper County apple queen, Union. Miss Norman won every blue and most of the red ribbons on apple exhibits. The final four township placings as evaluated by Superintendent George Wood and Harry Q. Holt, judges, were: Carpenter, TO firsts, 9 secotfds and one third for 158 points; Marion, nine firsts, 7 seconds and 5 thirds for 152 points; Union, 11 firsts and 6 seconds for 146 points, and Jordan, 10 firsts and 4 seconds for 124 points.
