DEMOTTE UNIT NO. 440 AMERICAN LEGION AUX.
On August 5,6, and 7 the officers and members of DeMotte Unit 440 will again conduct the food stand at our annual American Legion Home Coming, which is sponsored by DeMotte Post 440. Mrs. Irene Sekema, chairman and her committee will be in full charge. We ask our friends of the Legion for donations of home made pies. We trust your response will be such as the proceeding year, for which we are very grateful. We also ask that anyone interested in helping us serve or in donating an hour or two of their time will please contact Mrs. Irene Sekema, chairman or Ruth Starkey or Mabel Bierma. This will be appreciated very much. We also wish to convey to our community at large that a very fine display of Service Sales will be on hand —remember your DeMotte Unit is vitally interested in our hospitalized veterans, who today are still suffering the ravages of war. A recent letter received from one of our veterans hospitals reads in part, “We all want you to know that we are indeed grateful to women such as you and the good citizens of DeMotte which you represent; We disabled veterans are aware more than ever of our indebtedness to you and your community, who keep alert after the battles are ovei' and the victories won. Those who devote their time and efforts to aid the Casualties whose lot would be almost unbearable if not for women who give above and beyond that, wnich is expected of them. And so when you visit our Service Sales booth remember we are selling hope, courage and good faith. When you buy any of the numerous hand craft articles you are investing in the future of hospitalized and A disabled veterans. You’re giving some ex-soldier a chance to regain his self respect and independence. All of which will increase the value of the purchase you make. You will have the nice pleasure of meeting one of our disabled veterans in person, who will be on hand with his trailer full of handcraft articles for you to see. Bob Carr is the boy’s name and he comes from Gary, Indiana. Mrs. Mildred Boissy will be in charge of Service Sales, assisted by Mrs. Mary Kessinger, Mrs. Marilyn Stellingwerf, Mrs. Blanche Henrichs and Mrs. Sam DeKock. We are open for more volunteers —please contact Mrs. Boissy or Irene Sekema. Remember this is a three day session and we do not wish to work a hardship on anyone donating their valuable time —please help. DeMotte Unit 440.
