ON THE FARM FRONT...

Final plans have Deen completed for the 1948 state farm management tour to be held Wednesday, August 4, in connection with the summer Agricultural Conference to be held at Purdue University August 3*5, according to information received by J. A. Carroll, county agent. The two farms to be visited will be the John McCormick farm, located on State Road 39 between Delphi and Rossville in Carroll county and the John Leuck farm, is on state road 352, six miles west of Boswell in Benton County. The tour wifi start at 9:30 a.m. at the McCormick farm. Visitors will be shown an intensive hog producing program at the McCormick farm, where 100 litters of pigs will be farrowed in 1948. Methods for feeding, housing, watering and insuring sanitation for the swine herd will be discussed on the tour of the farm.

The Leuck farm is a typical prairie grain farm with emphasis given to the production of certified seed. The utilization of surplus grain and forage for the production of livestock on the Leuck farm, which results in a well balanced organization, will be of interest to Jasper County farmers, Carroll, county agent said. Dr. Henry B. Hass, head of the department of chemistry at Purdue, will be the speaker at the noon meeting at Boswell. Dr. Hass will discuss the topic, “Chemistry-Today and Tomorrow.” He will point out how science is rapidly aiding agriculture. Tickets for a fried chicken luncheon to be served at the Boswell fairgrounds must be secured in advance from the county agent. > The Indiana Farm Management Association will hold a banquet meeting on the preceeding evening, Tuesday, August 3, in the Purdue Memorial Union Building.
