' I Mr. and Mrs. Dan Pekech and family visited with Mr. and Mrs. Roger Wahl and family in Chicago Friday. Roger Jr., returned home after his vacation in Kniman. Mrs. Alex Hanewich «spent Sunday evening until Monday evening with her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Mose Homoky in Gary. The Jolly Club met in the home of Mrs. Wm. Bricker on Tuesday afternoon. Prizes were Won by Mrs. Vernon Stevens, Mrs. Carroll Haniford, Mrs. Estol Meyers and Mrs. John M. Middlekamp. Ellen Peterson won the traveling prize. Mrs. Gus Borman „.Sr., was a guest for the afternoon. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Lester Holbrook July 27, in Wheatfield. and son of Chicago visited in the ; home of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Pekech and family last week. Mrs. Lehman and Dickie stayed for a week Mr. and Mrs. Mose Homoky of Gary and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hanewich and family were dinner guests on Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Allyn. ’ Mrs. Elmo Rice entertained the R. 2 Home Economics club on Thursday, with eleven members present and one guest, Mrs. Lynn Mak. The first lesson on entertainment Etiquette was given by Ellen Peterson. A buffet luncheon was held with the serving of | chicken terrapin and cherry crunch. Mrs. Wm. Bricker won the hostess prize and Mrs. Floyd Allyn and Mrs. Dan Pekech won the contest prizes. The club decided not to meet during the month of August. After the club was dismissed a baby shower was given for Mrs. Walter Mak. Mrs. Mak received many lovely gifts and cards. Joseph O’Connor of Wheatfield, Rex McDaniel of DeMotte and N. H. Peterson attended the funeral of Roy C. Clark, in -East Chicago on Monday. Mr. Clark was a building contractor. A very pretty wedding was solemnized at Bond Chapel, on the University of Chicago campus, at six o’clock, Saturday, July 10. Evelyn E. Filson became the bride of Lincoln D. Metcalfe, both of Chicago. The Chapel floral bouquets were white peonies and white gladiolus. At Dawning, and Because was sung by Richard Brown of the University. The brides’ gown was on old fashioned Colonel style, high neckline of fine net and a dropped shoulder effect of Irish lace which extended to the floor on the front of the gown, of white brocaded marquisette. A finger tip veil was held on the head with a seed pearl tiara, she carried white rose-buds and orange blossoms. Miss Phyllis Byron, of LaGrange, 111., was maid of honor. Miss Zada Zarling of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Glen Metcalfe of Cedar Lake, Indiana were bridesmaids and Marlyn Sherman of Chicago was a junior birdesmaid. They all had colonial style dresses of light blue frosted organdy and wore large organdy hats, carrying yellow cavalier roses. The best man was Theodore Titgemier of Toledo, Ohio. The ushers were Chester - Patrick of Chicago and Glen Metcalfe of Cedar Lake. They wore dark trousers and white coats. Bert Filson father of the bride presented her at the altar and Rev. Reynolds Hoover of Ingleside Methodist church of Chicago, unit-
ed the couple in marriage. The bride’s mother wore dust rose' with \white accessories and a white corsage. The bridegroom’s, mother a white and blue floral dress with blue accessories and a pink corsage. A reception was ! held at their new home in Rose-; land, Chicago for one hundred and fifty guests. The couple left for a three weeks trip, visiting Glacier National Park in Montana and Lake Louise in Canada. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Cookman of Washington, D. C., were visitig her mother, Mrs. Bert Filson last week. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Nuss Jr., and daughter, Barbara Ann and Mrs> James Ward and son, Jimmy spent Friday evening with Mrs. Elmo Rice. Mrs. Ward and son stayed over to spend a few days with her sister. Phillip Zea Jr., was slightly bruised last week when he was hit by a car, while riding his bicycle. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nemith attended a wiener roast on Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Stowels at Thayer. Several from here attended the Street Fair at Wheatfield last week. Mrs. Mattie Hoile of North Manchester returned home after spending several days in the Hoile home* Mrs. Virgil Luchene of Shelby visited her sister, Mrs. Philip Zea last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Eitutis and son, Tony of Chicago and Sgt. Charles Lucas of Battle Creek, Mich., were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kenchus, and to help Mrs. Kenchus celebrate her hame day. Mrs. Kenchus received some lovely gifts. Mrs. Wm. Kieffer and sister, Mrs. Margaret Kalb, returned from Chicago last Thursday evening. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Walter Erne and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kalb and two children, Tommy ad Donna and Mrs. Nick Miller were visiting in the home of Mrs. Kieffer. Mrs. Kalb and children are spending the week here. Visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nemith last week were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gost of Lancaster, Penn., Mrs. Lowell Dionne and daughter, Jane of Hebron, Mrs. Woodford Howard and son, Ronald Gene and Mrs. Dan Odle Jr., and daughter. Mrs. Selma Hunter of Du Bois Penn., Mrs. James Close of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Jones and Mr. Ben Kemp of Fox River Grove, 111., were visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Filson last week. Mr. Kemp is a Re--1 presentative of Fosster Motor Truck Co., and Mr. Jones is in
charge of Bldg., Material Dept., in Sears Roebuck Department store. Phillip Zea has purchased the garage formerly owned by John DeYoung. • Guy Payer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Payer of Detroit, Mich., called on old friends here last Friday. It has been 40 years since Guy left Kniman. '
