4-H News FROM YOUR COUNTY EXTENSION OFFICE
Gillam The. Gillam 4-H girls met July 12 at the Gillam School with 16 members and 4 visitors present. The meeting was opened by the members giving the 4 H pledge. We sang a few songs. We decided we would have our picnic Wednesday evening and then have ice cream and cake after going on our picnic. There were several demonstrations given. All members took part in judging food preparation. Refreshments were served. The meeting was adjourned. Gillam Boys The Gillam 4-H boys met at the Gillam schoolhouse on July 19 at 8 o’clock. The meeting was called to order by the president, Don Tillett, who used the new gavel. Roll call was answered by “how I am coming along with my project.” It was decided that the 2c fine for talking out of order apply to the president and all visitors. The meeting was adjourned and one hour of movies were shown. Refreshments of pop and cake were served.
Jordan Jolly Workers The Jordan Jolly Workers held a 4-H meeting July 20th at Jordan School. The meeting was opened by saying the pledge to the flag. Next we sang “Old Black Joe.” Seven members answered roll call by naming their favorite flower. One visitor was present. Plans were made to goswiming at Brook, July 28. We are to meet at Jordan School at 12:20. Joyce Blackwood gave a demonstration showing how to set the table. Carol Perschon gave a demonstration on making livsb* sausage sandwich spread. After the meeting several games were played. Refreshments of ice-cream, cake and pop were served by Carol Perschon and Joyce Blackwood. Progressive 4’s The Progressive 4’s club met on July 20 at the Marion School with 14 members and 7 visitors present. The meeting was opened by a song “I’m looking Over a Four Leaf Clover” led by Marcia Jordan. The pledge was given by Ted Ward. Plans were made for the township tour. The tour is going to start at Jim and Joyce Swing at 9 o’clock DST on August 2. The next meeting will be held at Bob and Rex Wuerthner.
South Barkley Modern Priscilla Patty and Joe Hite entertained thirteen Modern Priscillas on July 20. Patty Hite called the meeting to order. Roll call' was answered by “What I am To Exhibit.” Helen Kupke gave the secretary’s report. It was announced that the Care package has been sent. The recent county contest was discussed. Mrs. Hite showed winning 4-H scrapbooks to the group and emphasized the importance of beginning a 4-H scrapbopk now. Mrs. Hite then took pictures of the group which will be available for scrapbooks soon. Emily Trulley played two piano numbers “Medley of Beautiful Ohio and the Waltz She Saved For Me” and “Tales from Vienna Woods.” Helen Kupke played “Irene” on her saxophone accompanied by Emily Trulley. Lilian Holmes sang “I’m Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes” after which encored with “San Antonio Rose.” Refreshments of cup cakes, fruit jello and lemonade were served by the hostesses.
Busy Bees The Busy Bees 4-H club held a meeting on July 20 at the Remington High School with 26 members present. We discussed camp. We decided to skip the Scanvenger Hunt on July 26. We decided to have a Mother’s Tea on August
3 along with the exhibit. We discussed the fair and exhibit on August 16 and August 3. We sang songs. Miss Wood helped us with our record books. The next meeting will be July 27. Challengers The July 21st meeting of the challengers 4-H club of Keener Township was held at the Klip home. The 4 H pledge was lead by Ruth Carter. Roll call was answered with the favorite flower. Seventeen members and one visitors were present. A tour to view all the projects is planned for August 4. Carol Unzicker gave a few safety suggestion in connection with National Safety Week. A demonstration and talk were give by Jack Fritts and John Klip on how to make a rope halter for a calf. Two movies were shown by Chester Corbin. Refreshments and recreation followed. The next meeting will be at Russell Hunter’s on August 11. Robert Peterson, son of Mr. and Mks. Wm. Peterson is carrying his left arm in a cast as a result of a fall received while riding his bicycle in the lane at his home East of town. The bone is fractured between the elbow* and wrist. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bunning and children are spending a weeks vacation with relatives in DeMotte.
