CAN WE KNOW GOD? In last week’s article we made it clear that there is a relationship between knowing ourselves and that of knowing God. To understand anything about ourselves, there must be a knowledge of God- So a natuial question for many to ask is. what is it to know God? To begin with it must be stated that by a knowledge of God is meant ■ more than acknowledging the fact that there is a God. Just to say God exists' may mean possibly more than a mental assertion. One may even believe that God provides the sunshine and rain; that He governs the laws of nature to cause seasons to come and go; to provide us with abundant daily blessing; and yet not accept Jesus Christ as God’s son who is a personal Saviour from sin. The Bible reveals God's ' infinite self to men. clearly demonstrates God's characteristics and attributes. and explains how ’men are sinners, ungodly, not lovers of
truth. It explains that there is a future life and that men now and in the hereafter must accept the Bible as to what it states before he can come to know anything about God. To read with interest, to listen with purpose, and accept without doubt what the Book of Lift- has to say in regard to God. will give us "enough knowledge, of God to understand what we need to know to reverence and worship Him in the right way. It is good to call to mind how all men offer God some, sort of worship but very few reverence Him. There i> on every hand a great show’ of ceremonial observance, but sincerity of heart is rare. To ! now God in that spirit of reverence, we of necessity must believe the word of God which 'speaks of Christ as the only mediator between" God and man. Christ is God’s open letter for telling whom and what God is. Therefore in answer to the question can we know God. we must accept Christ and what He. did for us to have a beginning and sure insight. Christ promises us real wisdom when we meet Him face to face at His appearing in the end of time. There is no other ground for this hep*.
