James Rowen Headed For U. S. Capital

DeMotte H S. Grad of 1948 To Become Trainee In Government Department James Rowen, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Rowen of DeMotte who laid aside his high school books when he was graduated with the class of 1948 of DeMotte high school, is headed for Washington, D. C., to become a trainee in an important branch of governmental service. Accompanied by his parents, Jimmy will take off for the nation’s hub on Monday. Almost a year ago Jimmy applied for enrollment as a government trainee. The eligibility rules are rigid and it was only recently that he was notified of his acceptance. On Thursday - of this week he was ordered to report. Jimmy starred as a member of DeMotte’s basketball, football, baseball and track teams during his four high school years. He was a member of the basketball team that won the Kankakee Valley flag, and which reached the semi-finals of the Sectional tournament this year. He was one of the leading cogs in the various squads that won many successes during his years of competition. He is a co-holder of the JCHSAA pole vault title, an honor he won last spring when he tied for first place in annual county track and field meet. Jimmy is energetic and has the stuff with which to make the grartfrfe- in - HwAJOrid which he has chosen for himself.
