LOCAL STUDENT GRADUATES FROM WHEATON COLLEGE
Carolyn Ruth Bass, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P, N. Bass, DeMotte, Ind., graduated from Wheaton College with a bachelor of arts degree in English literature at the commencement exercises June 14. Miss Bass was one of 290 who received degrees from the Wheaton, 111., college. Wheaton is an interdenominational Christian college with a total enrollment this past year of about 1500.. Founded in 1860, the campus is located 25 miles west of Chicago. Mrs. Lillian Van Merton was a Gary shopper last Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bierma left Tuesday for Springfield, 111., to attend the Spanish War Veterans Convention. Mrs. Florence Curtin and Mrs. Charity Erwin visited several days with relatives in Chicago. Mrs. Emmett Erwin of Rensselaer was here visiting Miss Sadie Fairchild while they were gone. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Bass were in Wheaton, 111., to attend the graduation of their daughter Carolyn this week. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Van Wienen spent Sunday in Gary visiting with friends.
