County Schools To Get $24,000 From State Fund
Indianapolis, Ind., June 15. Jasper county schools will receive $24,000 from the special $5,000,000 state allocation of cigaret tax funds announced by Governor Ralph F. Gates today. The special allocataion is designed for building and equipment repair in an effort to relieve local conditions resulting from the terrific postwar strain on the school system, the Governor said. The first allocation $12,000 will be received August 1. A second payment in the same amount will be made next January. The funds are being distributed, according to State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ben H. Watt, on the basis of 10.4 per cent of the average minimum salary of the 1.194 school corporations in the state. The .statewide distribution brings the total of state aid to the school system to $48,000,000 this year. The school allocation follows by two weeks distribution of another $5,000,000 in cigaret tax funds to town, city and county roads. As a Result of the recent allocations, the State has now diverted approximately 75 per cent of its income to local units of government in an effort to relieve strains imposed by postwar inflation and the heavy demands of an increased population.
