Carrier Route Open At Wheatfield P. O.
Examination To Be Held In Rensselaer; Application Deadline Is June 24 The United States Civil Service Comission has announced an examination to fill the position of rural carrier at Wheatfield, Ind. The examination will be held at Rensselaer. Receipt of applications will close on June 24. The date of examination will be stated on admission cards mailed to applicants after the closing date for receipt of applications. The salary of a rural carrier on a standard daily route of 30 miles is $2020 a year, with an additional S2O a mile a year for each mile or major fraction thereof in excess of 30 miles. Salaries on routes of shorter length or of less frequent service are proportionately lower. A rural carrier serving one tri-weekly route shall be paid a salary on the basis of a route one-half the length of the route served by him. A rural carrier serving two triweekly routes shall be paid a salary on the basis of a route one-half the length of the two routes. All rural carries must furnish and maintain at their own expense all necessary vehicle equipment for the prompt handling of the mails, but they are allowed an equipment maintenance of 7 cents a mile on the basis of the daily mileage scheduled (this amounts to $640.50 per year for a 30-mile route.) They are permitted to use motor vehicles, but are required to furnish sufficient equipment to handle postal business properly.
