Pierre, S. D., June 2. Early returns in South Dakota’s preferential primary elections tonight gave Rep. Karl E. Mundt a lead in the Republican senatorial nom-

inating race. With 20 precincts out of 1,949 reporting, Mundt polled 2,145 votes to 449 for Otto B.< Linstad, Pierre, veteran army officer and state senator.
