COUNTY GETS TEACHER AID FROM STATE
Twenty Million For Teacher Salaries In 92 Hoosier Counties „ Indianapolis, Feb. 2 county’s share in the second semi-annual payment by the State of Indiana under the new teachers’ minimum salary allotment law is $92,191, it was revealed today. Total distributed to Indiana’s 92 counties was $19,871,464.85, according to an announcement by Ben H. Watt, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. The state withheld one-half of each teacher’s Retirement Fund assessment, as provided in the law. Superintendent Watt explained that the payments, which represents 41.47 per cent of the average minimum salaries of full-time teachers, was the Second to be made under the 1947 legislative teacher law. First payment, in approximately the same amount, was made last July. The State thus has forwarded to the counties in the last fiscal year $39,499,834.75, $10,500,000 more than in the previous twelve months. Another payment will be made in July.
