Summoning Venires Major Item In Cost of Conducting Local Phase of Murder Trial Lake county’s indebtedness to Jasper county for trying the six-weeks-long Brown-Badgley murder trial is $8,520.24, plus “incidentals”that add considerably more to the bill. The above sum represents only money advanced by this county to veniremen, their board and room, mileage for the sheriff, etc. The $8,520.24 broken down, shows reimbrusements due Jasper county from Lake county, as follows: Summoning of veniremen. —■ $660.05. Meals for jurors and Bailiffs, $616.29. Jurors for services Special Judge - $650. Hotel for Jurors Sheriff’s mileage Expert witnesses The above sum does not include mileage for sheriffs of adjoining counties who summoned witnesses (Lake, Benton, White and Pulaski.) Nor does it include venue costs. Neither does it include salary for the Jasper county prosecutor, the court reporter and the $2 per day fee for the clerk. The money due for services of the prosecutor and reporter goes into the county treasury, and not to those two individuals who received no pay for their services other than the monthly stipend due them from the county. In addition to what is owed Jasper county, Lake county’s local expense is expected to be double its Jasper county expendifor an overall bill approximating $25,000.
