Mount Bernon, Wash~ perusing an October, 1922 issue of the Mount Vernon Daily Herald, which celebrated its 25th anniversary, a researcher found these memories of the good old days. “Best quality ham, 25 cents a pound . . . bacon, 30 cents a pound . . . bulk coffee, four pounds for 90 cents.’* Other items dreamed about were milk and bread A selling for ten cents a quart and ten cents a loaf, men’s overcoats, $13.50; ladies’ sweaters for $1.95, and three flat cans of salmon for a quarter., That was four years after the end of World war I.
