Legion Sponsoring Indee. B. B. Team

American Legion post 440 has announced that it will this year sponsor an independent basketball team that will include both Legion and non-Legion players. This decision was reached at the regular meeting last Monday night after several weeks of debate, and should prove both popular and profitable to the legion and town as it virtually eliminates any chance for another team. Selected as manager was Dan “Spider” Walstra with “Snake” Evans elected as his able assistant. The squad has been working out for the last several Saturday nights and such ex D.ILS. luminaries as Bernie Marshall. Steve Terpstra, Dick Sam Kingma, the Andersons, Rabbit and Peanuts, Alden and Sig Boezeman, Kenny DeVries, Joe and Herb Ruisard and Dick Evans along with the two managers can be seen sharpening their basket eye for another season. The Legion will purchase new uniforms and equipment to he used in tough independent and legion schedule. Entry in the Legion state tourney is also planned by the local club in which only members players will he- used.
