The money, revenues from the four cent state gasoline tax, represents more than an 11 per cent increase over the first half of 1946 according to Leland K. A new high in the 25 year history of gasoline tax collections in Indiana, Fishback predicted that the total tax bill will reach more than $32 million. He added: ‘Tn terms of highway construction, this means that motorists will pour $46 million in state gasoline taxes and registration fees into the highway fund this year. In addition to this tremendous amount must be added the many millions in un-spent state highway appliances, plus the $12,092, r 000 alloted Indiana annually for three years to order the provisions of the FederaLAid Highway act.” Fishback pointed out that during June and July, 1947, two other all time records were set with net gasoline tax collections for June hitting $3,138,824.83 and $3,197,954.23 in July.
