PETTY OFFICER RATINGS OPENED FOR EX-NAVY MEN

Many ex-navy Petty Officers, who previously were restricted from reenlisting in pay grades held upon discharge, may now reenlist in th 6 same or slightly reduced pay grades in accordance with new instructions, it was announced today by Kenneth F. Zeigler, Chief Quartermaster, U. S. Navy. Previously, Ex-Navy men who had remained out of the Navy more than three months were not permitted to reenlist in a rating higher than Seaman First Class. The new instructions permit Petty Officer openings in approximately twenty-five (25) different rating groups, including those for Yeomen, Storekeepers, Musicians, Radiomen, many Aviation ratings, and others. The new instructions apply to all EX-Navy men who were discharged on or after 15 August 1945, both Regulars and Reservists. Navy veterans are reminded that reenlisting now will enable them to regain their hardearned wartime ratings, and to take advantage of the Navy’s new high pay scales. Previous active service will also count towards or final retirement. Former Navy men may obtain Complete information at the Recruiting Station, Room 235 Post Office Building, Gary, Indiana.
