FARM HOME AND CONTENTS PREY OF FIRE

Charles Pullin Residence in Barkley Township Destroyed By Fire Last Evening The Charles Pullin residence in Barkley township and the greater part of its contents were destroyed by fire late Tuesday afternoon following a furnace explosion. In the home at the time were Mrs. Pullin, who arrived here from Scotland only a few weeks ago and her baby. Mr. Pullin was an adjacent field doing the evening chores. Mr. Pullin and family had been at the home of his father, Winfred Pullin, during the afternoon and upon their return to their home he went to the basement and fueled the furnace with fine coal, after which he left to perform the chores. A short time later Mrs. Pullin noticed smoke in a front ‘downstairs room. She started to the basement but was driven back by a heavy smoke screen after which she went to. the home of her father-in-law to summon help. Upon her return the fire had made such headway that aside from saving some furnishings in one room the entire contents were destroyed along with the eight-room residence. The home was remodeled a few years ago. There was some insurance, but not enough to cover the loss. , Mr. and Mrs. Pullin and baby will make their home with his parents pending their obtaining newliving quarters.
