NEW STATE CORN CHAMPION NAMED
Several champions in the annual Indiana corn and small grains show, being held at Purdue in connection with the annual agricultural conference, were announced Wednesday. Frank W. Lux' of Waldron, Chelby county, was selected as the state’s new corn king, showing the grand sweepstakes in 10 ears. His winning exhibit was of hybrid seed corn, Wf9x3B-11. The reserve sweepstakes honors went to R. A. Mitchell, Wingate, who also showed hybrid, Produce 844 D. George M. Kirkpatrick, Wingate, showed the best 10 ears of open pollinated corn, and Roy Cook, of near Crawfordsville, won first place with his sample of red clover. Other Champions Ralph Osborn, of Culver, won the state wheat championship for the third straight year, after his exhibit was judged best. Wayne Van Cleave, of Crawfordsville, was named soybean king for the second straight year at the show. The panel of judges for these two contests included G. H. Cutler, Purdue; A 1 Probst, U. S. Department of Agriculture; J. A. McCarty, president of the McCarty Seed company, Indianapolis, and J. B. Edmondson, vice-presi-dent of the American Soybean association. Both champions will be presented Pillsbury trophies and cash prizes at a dinner sponsored by the Indiana Corn Growers’ association Thursday evening. Judging continued Wednesday for other parts of the show. The agricultural conference opened Monday, and then took a two-day recess over New Year’s, to resume again Thursday morning and close Friday evening.
