You Need Your Security Card

Even Though Your Work Is Part-Time or Temporary You Must Have A Card Persons taking jobs in business or industrial establishments during the holiday season will need a social security card even though the work is partime or temporary, Mr. EdWard J. Hupe, Manager of the Lafayette Social Security Field Offices soid today. Social security cards may be obtained free of charge at the LaFayette field office located in the Post Office Building. “If a person has ever had a social security card def ore,” Mr. Hupe said, “he should not ask for a new card and number. If he has lost or destroyed the card he had previously, he should ask for a new card with the same number as the original one. If he has the stub of his original card, with the social security number on it, so much the better—a new card can be issued without delay.” Each worker’s social security card, with the number it bears, is the key to his insurance policy with Uncle Sam, Mr. Hupe Explained. It identifies his social security account, in which a record of his wages is kept. The social security' account is used to determine

the amount of benefits payable to the worker and his family. More than one social security numbei’ may cause delay in securing benefits, or even loss of benefits.
