KNIMAN LADY PASSES AWAY AFTER STROKE
Mrs. John F. Pettet, Resident of County Since 1889, Succumbs At Hospital; Rites Tuesday Mrs. John F. Pettet, a family name that has been so prominent in the life of Kniman community for many years, passed away at Jasper county hospital at 1:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon. Her death resulted from paralysis with which she was stricken a week ago. Mrs. Pettet’s maiden name was Mary Catharine Fleming. She was born in Porter county May 23, 1870, the daughter of John and Johanna (Maxwell) Fleming. Her parents were among the- very oldest settlers of Porter county. She was married to John Pettet January 18, 1889. . Their entire married life was spent in Walker township, most of it on the farm, the balance in retirement in Kniman. Mr. Pettet passed away June 14, 1936. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Gail Michal and Mrs. Daisy Tomlinson, Rensselaer; Mrs. Paul Hershman, Wheatfield; Firman Pettet, Brook; Jay and Ray Pettet, Rensselaer: Mrs. Lee Meyers, Chalmers; Mrs. Darrell Dewey, Rensselaer; Mrs. Fred Miller, Wanatah and John Pettet, Rensselaer; a brother, Elias Flem ? ing, Hobart, and three sisters, Mrs. Emma Coovert, Kniman; Mrs. Wm. Harvell, Morristown, Tenn., and Mrs. Frank Luchene, Shelbyville. AJso surviving are thirty-three grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mrs. Pettet was widely esteemed. During her long residence in Kniman* community she made her influence for good and progress felt. She was an important figure in church and community life. Her character was one that attracted and held the deepest respect of all. Her kindness, generosity and the helpfulness she gave to all were marked. The mother of a large family, she nevertheless found time to assist in the betterment of the community and in extending help to others. In her death Kniman community has been bereft of one of its most noble women. The funeral services will be conducted from Kniman Methodist church at one o’clock Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Earl Moore in charge. Interment will be at Weston cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Tysen of Inglewood, California, are the parents of a daughter, instead of a son. She has been named Valerie Gene.
