Savich Found Guilty Of Assault, Battery
Jury Out Several Hours Finds Grandfather Guilty Of Lesser Charge; Levies SBOO Fine. After deliberating several hours, the Jasper circuit court jury Tues, night found Rudolph Savich, Barkley farmer, guilty of assult and battery on the person of his 5-year-old granddaughter, Driena Savich. An SBOO fine was levied. Savich was indicted by the grand jury last summer on a charge of rape. There were several verdicts possible, including rape, as charged; assult and battery, assault and acquittal. The action was brought on complaint of Mrs. Eleanor Savich mother of the girl. Mrs Savich charged the attack was made in o L January, but it was not until June that action was taken. Each side; introduced several witnesses. She State presented four witnesses, the girl’s mother, the examining physician and Carolyn and Ethel Coffer. The latter two testified they were witnesses to an argument between the little girl’s mother and Savich last June. Shortly after that Mrs. Savich brought charges against her father-in-law. The defendant presented approximately twenty witnesses, including several character witnesses. :
