HOWARD IS ACQUITTED OF WIFE’S CHARGES
Ernest Howard, 24-year-old Barkley farmer, was found not guilty of the charge of abortion preferred by his wife, Genus, by a Jasper circuit jury Oct. 10. Chief witness for the State was
Mrs. Howard, who accused i her husband of having beaten her so severely the night of May 14 that she gave premature birth to a daughter. Howard made a general denial of the charges and Mrs. Howard’s evidence and that of other witnesses failed to convince the jury that Howard was guilty as charged. Evidence that conservation cutting of our remaining sawtirpber resources is vital. to the permanence of the saw milling industry is set forth in the bulletin “Grade
Yields and Overrun from Indiana Hardwood Sawlogs” recently published by the Purdue University Agricultural Experiment Station. Farmwoods owners and sawmill managers will find the 62 page bulletin, which largely concerns the value of standing timber is suggested. Among the subjects included are the quality of sawlog yeils, Indiana hardwood lumber grade recovery, log scales, Indiana hardwood overrun, apparisal of stumpage value and the common aims of the woods and mill owners.
