REPUBLIC ANS TO MEET IN RALLY AT RENSSELAER
Brilliant Maine Orator To Highlight GOP Rally Honoring Rep. Charles Halleck Senator Owen Brewster of Mairie, one of the country’s finest orators, will give the principal address at the Republican Rally honoring Congressman Charles A. Halleck on Tuesday evening, October 22nd. The event will be held at the hjgh school auditorium in Congressman Halleck’s home town of Rensselaer, and is being jointly sponsored by the Republican Central Committees of Jasper and Newton counties. It is also expected that delegations from other Second District counties will attend as well as several State officials and Republican party notables. Senator Brewster will be introduced by his colleague from Indiana, Senator Homer E. Capehart. The program will get under way at 8:00 o’clock with Jasper County Republican Chairman, Cope J. Hanley, presiding. Senator Brewster has had a colorful and successful career and has risen to a position of National leadership in the Republican party. He has served successively
in the State of Maine legislature; as Governor of the State; in the House of Representatives and now as United States Senator. He is probably best known for his recent distinguished service as a member of the Pearl Harbor Investigating Committee in which capacity he Uncovered many of the heretofore hidden facts leading up to Japan’s attack upon the United States. Congressman Halleck and Senator Brewster became friends while they were serving together in the House of Representatives, and it is' because of this friendship, and in recognition of the great service that Mr. Halleck has rendered to the Republican party, nationally that Senator Brewster has scheduled this address at Rensselaer. Rhoda Unzinker Skibo Biewalter, Kenny DeFries, Dorothy Poisle of Hebron, Bernice Marshall and Biddy Wright attended the roller derby at Collisiums in Chicago, Friday night. Word has been received by Richard Grevenstuk, Sr., of the death of Fred Fennema of Highland, who was 76'years old. Mr. Fennema dropped in the yard of his. home Saturday morning. Mr. Fennema visited in DeMotte quite often. Funeral services was held in Roseland Tuesday at 2 p.m. Mrs. Mel Struble, Mrs. Florence Curtin, Mrs. Carl Richiger, Mrs. Arnold Hanaway and son, Bobby spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Granger of Hammond. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Swanson and daughter, Audrey Lynn attended a birthday supper Sunday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Zoeteman in honor of John’s birthday.
