5,000 Firms Listed To Train Veterans
Indiana Firms Authorized to Aid Veterans Under G. L Bill of Rights ■, More than 5,000 business and industrial firms in Indiana have been authorized to train war veterans under the apprentice and on-the-job training phases of the G. I. Bill of Right, according to Curtis Rardin, Jasper County Veterans’ Affairs officer. These approvals are handled by the local sub-approval committee and the State Approval Committee, which is headed by R. S. Robinson, educational director of the State of Inidana Department of Veterans’ Affairs. The recent organization of city and county sub-approval committees throughout Indiana has served to expedite the entire program for the interested employer. The individual veteran seeking the training and employment continues to submit his application (form 1950) to the nearest federal Veteran’s Administration office. But the employer must now submit his proposed program through the local sub-approval committee, Mr. Curtin added. “Variety is also the spice of work,” says Mr. Rardin, pointing to the great many different types of occupations which may fit into the program. “Bank officials, insurance -underwriters, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, morticians, upholsterers, accountants, beauty operators, machinists, cobblers —these are but a few examples of the callings envisaged by Public Law 346.” The objectives of the on-the-job and apprentice training program, Mr. Bardin emphasized*/ are is follows: to create the maximum number of training jobs for veterans; and, to establish then on a firm program so that the veteran may derive the best possible training to become competent in his or her vocation. The program must assure that the veteran, the government, and the employer are protected against being victimized, Mr. Rardin concluded. •
