LONG REACH TO PUNCH COWS
One of flic reasons Fred MacMurray is starring in 20th Cen-tury-Fox’s Technicolor hit, “Smokey,” tanning to the (fayWe theatre, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Aug. 19-19-20, matinee Sunday, is that lie stands six feet three in height. When Director Louis King set about casting the classic Will James story k he insisted that his cowpunchers be at least six feet tall. “You need tall men in the saddle for outdoor films,” King explained. Mac Murray easily filled the bill, but featured players Bruce Cabot, Hoy Roberts, J. Farrell McDonald and famous ballad singer, Burl Ives, just got under the wire —they all are exactly six feet. Anne Baxter has the feminine lead in “Smoky”, which was produced by Robert Bassler.
