CHURCH BODY BREAKS CENTURY OLD TRADITION
New York.—The General Synod of the Reformed 'Church in America, oldest church group in the United States with a continuous history, will meet at Buck Hill Falls, Pennsylvania, May 28 to 28, thus breaking its second week in June meeting date observed for more than a hundred years. Two hundred delegates with as many more visitors will attend the six day gathering. The Rev. Dr. Thomas Pace Haig, pastor of the first Reformed Church of Somerville, New Jersey, will preside as president. The Synod will not only review the work of the Reformed Church in the past year, hut also will lay plans for the year ahead. One important matter for consideration will be the. possible union with the United Presbyterian Church, under study for the past year under joint ‘committees on union. It is likely that this Synod will direct the Committee on UnSon to draw up definite plans for union to he presented to the 1947 session. Should that session adopt these plans the matter must then he referred to each of the 49 Classes of the denomination for action. If two-thirds of these vote approval, the General Synod of 1948 may then consumate the union. The same procedure will follow in the United Presbyterian Church for the two groups are identical in form of policy and government.
