Your friendship and encouragement mean a great deal to me. I'hese have been most difficult and trying times for all of us. I have diligently sought to look after personal requests coming to me and to act on general measures coming before the Congress of the best interests of the country would dictate, as you would have me act. This has been a great responsibility, to which has. been added the further assignment of serving as Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee and otherwise working in the interest of the Republican party nationally. In assuming these additional responsibilities, 1 have been sure you would concur in my belief that the welfare of the nation makes imperative the election of a Republican House of Representatives this year and the success generally of the Republican cause. For several years past, Congress has been in almost continuous session. However, when opportunity has presented I have been back in the district to learn first-hand your views and discuss our mutual problems. In the few days of the brief Easter recess I have been in the District seeing as many people as possible. Rut when the Congress is in session in these days of stress, I feel sure that you would want me to stay on the job in Washington. That I shall do, being confident you that will accept this letter of greeting from me in lieu of a personal call at this time. Sincerely, CHARLES A.
