SEES PROSPERITY FOR STATE DAIRIES
Indiana farm dairy products today appeared assured of an era of stability with the disclosure by a recent survey that the United States is becoming a milk drinking nation. Per capita consumption of milk in this country rose from .85 of a pint in 11)88 to 1.18 pints in 11)45, an increase of approximately 88 per cent, according to W. C. Slolk, vice-president of American Can Comapny. Mr. Stolk, whose company is the largest manufacturer of fibre milk containers, explained the survey was made iu connection with milk packaging. Indiana had an income of s(i2,27(>,1H)0 from the combined sale of milk, cream and farm butter in 11)41, last prewar year, he said, and as one of the nation’s importaid dairy states has a vital interest in increased milk consumption. In 1945, Mr. Stolk said, approximately 21,040,000,000 quarts of fluid milk were sold in cities and villages of tin* United States in addition to an estimated 5,500,000,000 quarts consumed on farms. These figures represented a gain of more than 7,047,000,000 quarts over 1988 when sales amounted to 14,000,000,000.
