EXERCISES HELD FOR TWENTY ONE GRADS
Several hundred people were present at the graduation exercise's for the twenty-one boys and girls who were graduated from the DeMotte High School last Thursday evening. Mr. Paul Mangle, principal of the school introduced the speaker Dr. William P. Hearing, for fill years president of Oakland College at Oakland City, Ind. Ilis subject was “Cheated,” and his address was highly entertaining and dealt with facts, as they have come down through history. I)r. Dealing is one of the better known educators and his career has been a long and interesting one. It was only a year ago that he retired from‘active life after a half-century as head of the southern Indiana institution. The graduates were: John Boezeman, Frieda Cheever, Willard DeFries, Laverne Evers, Edward (ioetz, Charmaine Hockney, Evelyn Hoffman, Virginia Mak, Donald Peterson, Alice Itowen, Kathleen Sauer, Jean Schuringa, Bethel Schwanke, Mabel Sekcma, Josephine Speechley, Barbara Stangle, Calvin Swart, Dennis Swart, June Swart, Hhoda IJnzieker, Ella Vander Molen. Mr. Bruce Stucker was tin* class sponsor. Other teachers being John Mission, (Metis Hinton, Lawrence Thompson, Miss Maxine Haas, Miss Betty Gundy, Miss Mary Holing, Mrs. Natalia Gidley, Mrs. Mary Kessinger, Mrs, Angie Becker, Mrs. Tresa Boezeman, Mrs. Eleanor Kupke, Mrs. Beulah Hart, Mrs. Gladys Swart. Ivan Cheever is the Keener Township Trustee. The program was as follows: Processional—“ Pomp and Circumstance” Elgar High School Band. Invocation—Bcv. Henri Steuenberg. ‘‘The Oracle”—Taylor High School Band. Introduction of Speaker—Trim Paul Stangle. Class Address—“ Cheated” Dr. William P. Hearing. "Green Cathedral”—Hahn; "Beautiful Savior”—Heigger— Girls’ Chorus. Presentation of DipLau Ira Huntington. Benediction—Rev. Henry DeMots. Recessional—“ War March of the Priests”—Mendelssohn High School Band.
