BUSINESS CLUB IS NOW THE DE MOTTE COMMERCIAL CLUB
Last Monday evening the DcMoltc Business Men’s Association field its regular inonllds meeting at Mary's Restaurant. About fifteen members were present. President Neil Ka-pcr presided Vvitb llenry Starkey as' see .retar; l . This was an important meeting as many tilings of interest for tbe benefit of our town were taken lip. Tbe first matter on the program was a change of name for the business men’s organization. Henceforth it will be know as the MeMottc Commercial ( bib. The constitution remains the same except that it is subject to amendment. Other matters of importance discussed were baseball games this summer, arrangements for band concerts and .picture shows. A committee was .appointed to gel information and make arrangements for these entertainments this summer, looking forward to the use of the school projector for the showing of educational pictures. Incorporation Discussed As a further matter of business the proposition of incorporating tin* village was brought up. John Iv. Hopkins Hensselaer attorney, was present to explain the legal details of incorporation. He cited the fact that taxes cannot be raised more than $1.2.') per SIOO of assessed valuation as that is the legal limit for incorporated purposes. Our neighboring village of Wheatfield has an assessment of sl.lO at present, although it has been niuch lower in past years. Incorporated however, DeMotte would receive back from tbe state and county in liquor and gas taxes amounts estimated to range from $2,000 to $3,000 per year. Furthermore, as an incorporated village it would receive other funds from licensing of certain businesses, dog taxes, etc. A committee was appointed as follows to work out boundaries for such incorporation: Al Kwart, chairman, Otto DeYoung, Jr., Win. Swart, Art Lagaveen and Neil WesterhofT. The meeting date of the Commercial Club was voted to be the first Monday of each month.

Vote Daylight Time A vote was taken on daylight saving time, and it was agreed that on and after April 28, I)eMotte business firms will ad'tpt daylight saving time, same as Gary, Hammond and Chicago.
