RIPS O. P. A. IN MEAT SHORTAGE
Meat supplies will remain short as long as the OPA ceilings remain and make tin' black, market possible, John .1. Turner, secretary of the Chicago Meat Dealer’s Association, *said Saturday. On the heels of approval of life for the O.P.A. voted Friday in Washington by the House banking committee, Tunzer explained that by restricting legitimate production of meat the OPA ceilings provide the incentive for black market operators. He ndded: “The big packers cannot get animals to slaughter because black marketeers bid higher for the livestock. Naturally the neighborhood butcher, trying to obey the restrictive law, is left out in the cold.”
