THE PASTOR’S COLUMN

by REV. GEO. GOTSCH

Pastor of the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Union Township

Sunday is our annual Mission Sunday to inspire us in performing our mission duty. To spread the soul saving gospel of Jesus Christ, to win immortal souls for Jesus and their own salvation is the great commission which Christ gave ,to His Church on earth and to every member of the Church. The folowing is a selection from the Chapel Bulletin of Chaplain Ben J. Hoffffman. Let us prayerfully and earnestly ponder on it. A Hindu convert to Christianity spoke at a missionary conference and made mention of the obstacles that had to be overcome in doing mission work among the people. The first objection to the Gospel of Christ was this: “It s not true.” But the objecton was overcome because the gospel has proved its divine truth. The second objection was this: “Christianity is not new.” This objection was also overcome when it was pointed out that no other religion offered forgiveness of sins through faith in God-sent Savior. Then came this third objection: “Christianity is not YOU.” By that they meant to say that those who call themselves Christians do not live as Christians! What shall We do to overcome that objection ? Obviously, there is only one answer: All who name the name of Christ should depart from iniquity and follow in His footsteps. Yes, how about it? Is Christianity YOU? The guest speakers will be Pastor Hillis Hall, of Lowell, in the morning service, at 10:30 o’clock, and Pastor Armin Oldsen, of Valparaiso, in the afternoon service at 2:30 o’clock. The total proceedings of the mission collection to be lifted will be used for mission endeavors. During the noon hour a basket dinner will be spread on tables on the lawn of the parsonage.
