INTERNED IN SWITZERLAND

Lt. Alvie Jay Phares, pilot of an American bomber which was forced down on Swiss soil, has been interned in that country for the duration, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Phares, RFD 1, Rensselaer, have been advised by cablegram. The cablegram said: “Mother, am safe. Well taken care of. Don’t worry. Mail will be slow. Interned in Switzerland. Reply by cable, American Legation Military Attache, Berne, Switzerland.” It was two years ago, July 21, that Lt. Phares entered air corps service. Following training at various bases /in this country he was assigned as bomber pilot. He arrived overseas May 11, this year, a few weeks following a short visit here with his parents. His parents recently received a letter from him telling them he had completed half; of his missions over European war theatres. Lt. Phares is 23 years of age and unmarried.. He was graduated from Fair Oaks high school in 1938. ,
