DEMOTTE WINS OPENER

Eleven spectators saw the DeMotte Merchants softball team defeat Shelby by a score of 2 to 4. Lee Harris led the hitting with 3 hits in his first 3 times at bat. The first Shelby batter laced a long fly ball out in center field, which the fielder misjudged and it went for a home run. But when DeMotte came to bat in the first inning, they batted around as they scored 8 runs. After that it was merely a matter of playing out the game as there was no doubt that Shelby was not in a class with DeMotte. Arrangements are being made to have a ball game here on the local diamond Friday nite. Come out to the game.
