SEMINARY NEWS
The Seminary group enjoyed the annual week of prayer at Hope College. The Seminary chorus under the direction of Mr. Henry Voogd, offered the special music at the Wednesday morning service. Dr. L. Shafer was the speaker for the week. The Seniors have finished their first “round” of preaching, and will soon begin with their second turn for the chapel audience. In their second appearance they will present doctrinal sermons. At present the Middle class members are conducting the preaching services. Rev. M. DeVelder, pastor of Hope Reformed Church, Holland, Michigan, has been engaged to give a series of ten lectures to the combined Middle and Senior classes on Friday mornings on the subject, “Church Organization.” Recent guests at our chapel service have been Rev. L. Olgers, Rev. P. Van Eerden, Rev. H. Ten Clay, and Rev .B D. Dykstra. Dn Brown and Rev. J. Nettinga of New York City, representatives of the Board of Education of the Reformed Church, spent the second week of February at the Seminary. They led chapel, and lectured in some of the classes. The ladies class on Monday evening has just finished the course on the Shepherdess with Dr. Blocker as teacher. The new 10-week course will be led by Dr. J. R. Mulder on th subject, “Religious Education.” ! Plans are under way for the Seminary Home Missions Sunday. This involves a general pulpit exchange for the entire Particular Synod of Chicago, and includes churches in the states of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. The Synod is composed of some 150 churches. Already 106 of these churches have signified their intention of having a share in this General Exchange, which is to
take plade on Sunday April 16, the first Sunday after Easter. The steering committee is composed of Rev. J. Euwema of the First Reformed Church of Grand Haven, representing the ministers, Dr. W. Goulooze s of the Seminary Faculty, and Senior A. Ten Clay who represents the students.
