IN TRAINING AT MIAMI, FLORIDA
Miami, Fla. —George Edward Suffern, machinist mate see-; ond c lass, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Portman Suffern of j route 2. Wheatfield, is in training at the T T . S. Naval Submarine Chaser Training Center here. Machinist mate Suffern enlisted for service with the fleet in August. 1940. and prior to reporting to this anti-submar-ine warfare center, the only activity of its kind in the country, he saw action in the Atlantic and Iceland areas. Fie wears the Defense ribbons with star. Suffern is a raduate of DeMotte high school. He played guard on the basketball quintet, centerfield on the softball team, and was a member of the track team. He also played the bass horn in the school band. He is one of the many young men who have reported to this warfare center, and who are being taught seven days a week to fight the submarine menace j to American shipping.
