AGRICULTURAL SCHOOL AT WHEATFIELD
Mr. K. E. Beeson, Crops Specialist and Mr. P. T. Brown from the Animal Husbandry at Purdue will be together on Thursday, January 28 in Jasper Couhty for two one-half day schools, on farm crops and hogs, to be held at Rensselaer, and Wheatfield. Mr. Beeson will welcome samples of soil at these meetings for testing for limestone requirements. Frozen soil can be tested. Superior crop varieties, best seeding practices, most efficient use of plant food supplies and high yielding pastures are the major points Mr. Beeson will discuss. Newer varieties of soybeans and oats, Hybrid corn under corn borer conditions, success with legume seedings, emergency pastures and efficient use of farm manures will be discussed. Production goals for 1943 are the largest the United States or Jasper County has ever been asked to produce. Varieties and farming practices which contribute most to insurance of good yields with minimum possibilities of crop failures should be used on every farm. Mr. Beeson will have one hour on the program at each school. 45 minutes for his discussion and 15 minutes for your questions. P. T. Brown will have the same time to discuss production problems. Larger litters of pigs weaned is the number 1 problem of farmers who will help meet the pork production goal for 1943. Feeding of bred sows and methods and equipment for saving young pigs will be the highlight of Mr. Brown’s discussion. Grain rations, pastures, protein supplements and labor saving system of hog production will also be included in Mrs. Brown's talk. The Wheatfield meeting will be held at the Wheatfield school house starting at 9:45 a. m. and the Rensselaer school will be held in the East Court Room in the Court House starting at 1:00 p. m. Schools have been cut to onehalf day schedules this year in order that they may be held at various places in the county, thus setting mileage and making attendance possible for more farmers. Everybody is welcome and invited to attend. There is no cost.
