Do you smell that steak and the pungent odor of coffee? It’s coming from that group of people gathered around the outdoor oven attempting to hold off their appetites until the food’s ready. Hundreds of people have tak en advantage of the outdor cooking facilities at the state parks this summer and fall, with its brilliant coloring, will find many more, according to Charles A. DeTurk. Director of State 4 Parks. h Camping and outdoor cook ing proved so popular at the state parks that facilities wen* improved for the visitors. Shelter houses with open tire places and tables can be used in good weather or if it hap pens to be cold. Beside the* outdoor ovens, one* will find stacks of wood provideel by the* park attendants.
The shelter houses and picnic areas at all the parks combined can accommodate 25.0(H) persons at one time. Hikes over the well-marked trails will lead to unexpected beauty spots and nature lovers will find a wealth of material to study. The end of the summer sesson will find the park pools closed and some of the nature guide serVice discontinued until next year, but other park facilities will remain open. Fall is becoming increasingly popular for visiting the parks, as the summer vacation crowd has thinned out and the cooler air is conducive to outdoor exercises.
