Manila, P. I.—This is a photograph of the rocky island of Corregidor, which stands in the center of the narrow mouth of Manila Bay on Luzon Island. Japanese bombers have been lashing it with fierce at-

tacks. The island’s guns, manned by U. S. forces have brought down four planes. Coast defense guns have stopped Japanese warships outside the bay.
