Wheatfield Red Devils Crowned Champions of Kankakee Valley Tourney

The Wheat field Red Devils, coached by Tommy MacOwan, won the 1941 Tourney last Saturday night by defeating Mt. Ayr by a 41-19 score. Wheatfield had previously defeated Fair Oaks by a small margin in their opening game, and San Pierre in the semi-finals, 47-26. Mt. Ayr, the other finalist also had a close squeak in their first game, barely nosing out “ three point decision over the Tefft team, and then defeating LaCrosse 31 16 in the semi-finals. The local team lost their first game of the tourney Friday night, bowing to San Pierre. 30-29. The first half was all San Pierre, the locals evidently feeling- very lazy. In the second half, coming out with a 16-8 score against them, the Indians perked up a little and carried the fight to the San Pierre team. Third quarter found them only one point behind, 23-22. Ikth t.aiih scored seven points in the final frame, with Boezeman and Bernard scoring for the locals and Dolezal, Deerflinger, and Wappel I for the San Pierre team. Standing out on the local team was Malcolm Boezeman, who scored ; 19 of his teams 29 points. He had only 4 points to his credit in the < first half, but came out in the final two frames of the game to out-fight, out-play, and out-score every other player on the floor. Boezeman shot a total of 16 stmts in the game, and 8 of them were good, giving him a mark of 50$, which is good shooting anywhere. He also made three | out of four attempted free throws, bringing his total points to 19. ! The next game is this Friday, Dec. 12, with Fair Oaks coming here.
