TWO WEEK EXTENSION GIVEN AUTO OWNERS
The state administration last week granted a “reprieve” to automobile and truck operators by extending the time for obtaining their 1941 license plates to January 13th, or a two-week extension from the original deadline which was set for Tuesday night at midnight. News of the decision to extend the time was broadcast over state police barracks radios following instructions from the state department. The news was flashed on police barracks radios that it might be received direct immediately | all state policemen that they might govern their actions accordingly. The state policemen had been advispd to arrest all Indiana motorists found operatingg their vehicles with 1940 plates after midnight Tuesday night. The January 13th date is seen as a sort of a compromise on the part of the present administration, which in it s three Previous years has set March 1 as the deadline. The legislature will be convened early in January and it is presumed that the order issued was designed to clear the date of the assembly’s convening, or in other words, leave the matter up to the Republican legislature as t o the deadline.
